Music Therapy at D’Youville
D’Youville is proud to offer a special service for our residents to enhance their overall well-being, alleviate stress and pain, and improve their memory and communication. Our Music Therapy program is a therapeutic tool designed especially to promote and expand opportunities for quality interaction through song and sound.
Working with a credentialed Music Therapist, our residents are offered alternative avenues of communication through which they may find new ways to express themselves. Music Therapy has been shown to be effective in a number of areas, including motivating senior adults to become more engaged with their surroundings and improving the results of short-term rehabilitation.
Our Music Therapy sessions include but are not limited to:
- Participation in a Drum Circle, which aids in improving teamwork, stimulates sensory perception, and can alleviate many neurological symptoms
- A Music and Movement class - an uplifting and fun way to exercise
- Small-group and one-on-one activities designed to engage the mind and support the creative spirit
